In his ten years as Maui United Soccer Club’s Director of Coaching, Brent Nunes has helped transform a small local club into a recognized program nationally both on a competitive level and with their attractive style of play. Nunes, 36 implemented club wide clear vision, training methodology, and player pathway program. He and his staff have created a grassroots Keiki Academy program as well as a competitive training environment where elite teams and individuals are constantly developing and progressing on to the next level. Nunes has guided many Maui United teams to state titles, regional tournaments, surf cups, and other national showcase events. Under Maui United's training curriculum, players are developing and moving on earning collegiate scholarships and being selected to join US Developmental Academies, and ECNL teams. Several Maui United players have also been called into the US National and Regional Team camps.
An avid student of the game, Nunes has traveled around the world visiting top academies and professional organizations to learn different methodologies of player development. At the top of his list of organizations visited are Ajax Amsterdam (Holland), FC Barcelona (Spain), Valencia Fc (Spain), and FC Twente (Holland).
Before Nunes returned home to Hawaii, he was the head assistant coach at Santa Rosa Junior College for two years, helping the Men’s program win the Big 7 Conference, and reach the national championship game in 2005 with a record of 23-1. Nunes has also been involved with the Olympic Development Program Region IV staff.
